Calculate how many yards of fabric you need for any sewing project based on pattern pieces and fabric width.
Project Dimensions
Common fabric widths: 44 in (quilting cotton), 54 in (decorator fabric), 60 in (knits and fleece).
Pattern and Seam Options
Standard seam allowance is 5/8 inch (0.625). Quilting uses 1/4 inch. Add seam allowance to each edge of each piece.
Patterns with repeats require extra fabric to match at seams.
One-way fabrics like velvet and some prints must all face the same direction, requiring more yardage.
